Birds and Bees lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains, where the Cherokee Rose — Georgia's state flower — blooms along shaded paths. Inspired by the Appalachian melody of Shady Grove, Silvia Passiflora reimagines the floating verse tradition through a feminine lens — infusing it with poetic storytelling, mountain imagery, and Southern kitchen wisdom.

This version features Silvia on vocals, ukulele, and bird whistle. Her innovative chord melody, played with a pinky slide, recalls the cry of a fiddle, while the whistle evokes birdsong and flirtation. What begins as a nod to courtship —“love is a needle and thread” — soon becomes sacred: love, honey, and cornbread, symbols of a life built together, are woven into the roots-rich arrangement.

At live shows, the intimacy of the songwriting often hushes the room. Listeners instinctively reach for each other’s hands, caught by the purity of the moment and the spell of Silvia’s delivery. This version captures that tenderness in full 24-bit resolution.

Lyrics

Birds and bees and Blue Ridge trees
Wise Cherokee rose
Love grows under the ooohs
Of the shady grove

Birds and bees and Appalachia knees
Gitfiddle and garden clothes
Love is a needle and thread
Of the brightest rose

Birds and bees
A pan cast in iron flows
Honey and cornbread for two
love grows by the kitchen stove

Birds and bees heed the need to grasp
Two are one when two hands clasp
Two are one when two hands clasp
